Last night was Feeding the Homeless with Emmanuel Baptist Church(EBC) in D'town Orlando. For the first time, we ran out of food. Looks like we're going to need to up our amounts that we normally bring. In the meantime, I was thinking we could throughout the month collect the non-perishable items on our list, allowing you to also collect from friends & neighbors throughout the month. It's always super rewarding to know that you're helping someone, so be sure to give people that you know the opportunity.

What we can be collecting:

Thoughts on Romans 12:9-21 from Jess

I was reading in Romans 12 and came to verses 9-21. I was thinking, wouldn't our youth group be so amazing if this was how we acted toward each other and our friends.

genuine love (vs.9) - so take off our "perfect christian" face masks

outdoing each other in showing honor (vs.10) - what to you makes a person have value? we have a tendency to rank each other, then we value each other based on the ranking that we've given them. we should value each other based on NO SOCIAL RANKINGS! again, loving genuinely and giving honor/value to each other.

seek to show hospitality (vs.13) - we should have our ears always open for the needs of others, whether they are physical needs like food or clothing or they could be spiritual/emotional needs like loneliness or depression.

bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them (vs.14) - school is back in session, and there are always those people who like to pick on you. i guess that could be considered a form of persecution. be careful in your reactions!!! God says we should bless them, not curse them. what do you think blessing them looks like?

live in harmony with each other, don't be prideful or conceited, befriend the lowly (vs.16) - all of you harmony high school students probably love this one! i want to know what you think that this is saying?

our reaction to people who are mean to us? (vs.17-21) - read it for yourself and let me know what the answer is. it has something to do with Pastor Chan's recent sermon series.

Taylor's Baptism

God is so amazing!!! The retreat was a success, yes, but God used the closeness of our conversations to bring Himself into the forefront! Many late night discussions occurred, but the night before the last: Brent, Taylor, Brian, & Will all sat down at the table and hashed out "How do you guys (Brent & Brian) know that you're Christians?" The conversation went on for well over an hour and by the end, Taylor admitted God's calling on his life, accepted a relationship with our Great God, and wanted to follow in baptism to show everyone his faith. This past Sunday, Brent had the awesome privilege to baptize Taylor in representation of following:

in Christ's death on the cross to deliver us from our sin's penalty = death
in Christ's raising from the dead to allow us to walk as He does in a new life

Batman Dark Knight

We just went to see Batman Dark Knight, and it was awesome! Ridiculously long lines and ticket sale outs, but well worth it. Surprisingly, both Allison & Taylor hadn't seen the first but were very excited to see the Dark Knight. I think that our biggest memory of the night is Allison screaming not once but twice so loudly that the entire theater jumped out of their seats! It was a night to remember, for sure.

Gatlinburg Retreat '08

FUSION HITS UP PAPPY'S JUNK & STUFF

Ok...so we left Orlando at midnight and drove through the night in a 15 passenger van, thanks to the Knosts! 13 people in a 15 passenger van w/ all of our stuff & that included Taylor's ridiculously huge bag that was in everyone's way the entire drive. CRAZY!! We stopped for the bathroom pretty much every 30 minutes at the beginning of our drive until everyone crashed. (Everyone except Will) We arrived in Asheville around 11am & stopped in at Missio Dei (livinguncommon.org). They were in their new building, so it was a pretty exciting day for them. We went to a park in Asheville & joined them for their baptism & some lunch. Finally, we left & headed to our final destination...the students would say they were READY TO GO!!!
Monday we went to Nascar Speedpark where Jenny began the crash testing on Brent...poor Brent...he was bumped/crashed all night long! Abbie had a nascar boyfriend, tried to get a guy fired, and still had time to do some serious racing! There was fighting, flurting, awe...a typical youth activity! ;p
Tuesday we went White Water Rafting with Appalachian Outdoors. No body was lost to the rapids. CRACK ON CRACK!!! That's all I have to say about that.
Wednesday we hiked to Grotto Falls in the Smokey Mountains National Park. Lucas tried to roll down the mountain, but it was nothing too serious. lol! The falls were amazing!! Later that night, Abbie, Melissa & Allison put on a dance/singing performance...it was cute.
Thursday we headed home in the morning & it seriously took all day with 14 people & their luggage crammed into a 15 passenger van. I think that everyone was glad to be home, but looking at the pictures...it'll make you miss our first little retreat to the mountains!

Great talks about God and the pursuit of a relationship with Him, and we learned about the importance of prayer (Thank you, Kurt). Journaling w/ Bible readings seemed to be a hit along w/ the music reflection time. FUSION seemed to really enjoy digging deeper together!
